A covered deck is not a very common sight in Edmonton and surrounding areas, but it should be! With our climate of snow, rain and wind, our days of perfect deck weather are few and far between. We think everyone in Alberta should have a covered deck, especially one with a wood burning fireplace!

To keep maintenance work and expenses under control, we used treated wood for both the deck surface and the structure. A large slab of granite under the fireplace creates a fireproof hearth that blends seamlessly into the deck surface. The mantel is made of solid cedar. Cedar accents throughout the space create an appealing contrast to the stone on the fireplace, making this space feel like a true western retreat.

The open-air feeling is heightened by a vaulted ceiling with two beautiful skylights and a pretty chandelier. South exposure creates a warm and bright environment. There’s a built-in sideboard that can serve as a buffet or bar area – with room for a cooler, or even a few bar-stools underneath.

For outdoor entertaining, kicking back and relaxing, or enjoying a romantic evening under the stars, this outdoor living space is sure to please – no matter what the weather might bring!
