Basement of Champions
Often when we think of a ‘basement’ we envision a dark, cold, undesirable area that doesn’t have an enjoyable atmosphere. Although this basement started out as an under-utilized, chopped-up space, we think the final results have made it cozy and comfortable, not to mention beautiful, fun and functional! This is now a great living space to watch a movie or an Oilers’ game, relax, and enjoy some great family time.
Walking down the opened-up stairwell, real stone can be seen surrounding the 3-sided, remote operated gas fireplace. There are lots of built-in cabinets under the stairs and around the TV for extra storage and display. Existing in-floor heating keeps the flooring warm on your feet. Extra lighting contributes to a feeling of spaciousness as the ceiling is quite low. In the bedroom we added a ‘windoor’ egress window to the bedroom to meet code, along with a spacious walk-in closet.
The new bathroom is roomy, pretty and practical. The ceramic tile is warm on the feet – thanks to that in-floor heating system! A guest room is created by closing a set of large, sliding doors. When the doors are open, this area is used as a sewing room that is very nice to work in when opened to the surrounding space.
This interesting and unusually shaped basement has been transformed into a lovely, bright and functional family recreation area. Truly a Basement of Champions; this family will enjoy quality time here for years to come!
